Operation Step Outdoors is a veteran-led wellbeing programme funded by Sport England and The National Lottery. It offers free weekly walks across Lancashire every Sunday and walk-to-run sessions every Wednesday, supporting both the veteran community and the wider public. The aim is to encourage people to step outdoors, stay active and improve their mental wellbeing.

Classic Routes
The programme highlights some of Lancashire’s most iconic routes, giving participants the chance to enjoy classic trails and hidden gems. Walks will cover destinations such as Pendle Hill, Darwen Tower, Rivington Pike, the Tolkien Trail and Beacon Fell. Each route has its own unique character, from panoramic countryside views to peaceful woodland trails, making every walk an opportunity to explore something new. Alongside these well-known locations, we will also venture onto lesser-known trails across Lancashire and beyond, giving our walkers the chance to discover even more routes and broaden their outdoor experiences.

Equipment and Preparation
Participants are encouraged to come prepared with a few simple essentials. Sturdy walking shoes or boots, waterproof clothing, warm base layers, hat and gloves (seasonal), some fluids and a snack are recommended for each session. Most importantly, a positive attitude is all that is needed to enjoy the experience.
